Disc not reading, disc stuck inside, won't eject, or making grinding noises? We diagnose what's actually wrong with the drive and fix it on the bench.
PS5 disc drive faults almost always fall into one of these:
Telling us which of these you're seeing helps us scope the work before you bring the console in.
Bring the console with the disc inside. We extract it cleanly as the first step of the diagnosis, with the drive opened on the bench so the disc can be lifted free without scratching. Forcing a stuck disc with the manual eject screw can damage both the disc and the drive sled, so it's worth bringing the console in before trying anything aggressive.
Depending on what the diagnosis turns up, the actual repair work might involve any of:
Sometimes a disc drive problem comes alongside other faults that look unrelated. If your console also won't power on properly, see our PS5 BLOD repair page. If it powers on but there's no picture, see our PS5 HDMI repair page. If you've got a PS4 with similar disc symptoms, see PS4 disc drive repair.
Safe extraction of a disc stuck inside the drive when the eject motor or sensor has failed, without scratching or damaging the disc.
Repair or replacement of failed gears, belts, motors, and the drive sled when the drive is grinding, jamming, or rejecting discs.
Bench testing of the laser assembly for read failures and replacement when the laser itself has degraded past usable spec.
Component-level repair on the disc drive control board for faults that don't trace back to mechanical wear or laser degradation.
